| Dark circles or shadows under the eyes are often seen in patients with allergies. The venous system around the eyelid area becomes congested and often the translucent infra-orbital skin will allow for the darkness to penetrate through to the muscle. In the 200 or more patients we have followed, the most common cause of this problem is not increased pigment but rather a problem with the blood system around the eye and skin.
